Smaller Canadian Mustard Crop

VANCOUVER - May 22/15 - SNS -- Canadian mustard seed production will be down sharply this year is farmers stick with their seeding intentions, predicts Agriculture Canada market analysis branch in Winnipeg,

It predicts mustard seed production this year will reach 125,000 MT from 319,000 acres, compared to 198,000 MT from 465,000 acres in 2014.

Agriculture Canada expects exports to reach 125,000 MT in 2015-16, compared to 135,000 MT in 2014-15 and 138,000 MT last season. Domestic use is forecast at 25,000 MT next season, compared to 43,000 MT this season and 45,000 last season.

Season ending stocks are forecast to finish the 2015-16 marketing year at 5,000 MT, versus 30,000 this season and 10,000 MT the previous season.

Agriculture Canada predicts grower bids for all classes of mustard will range between $675 and $705 MT this season and between $675 and $705 MT in 2015-16.
