New Zealand's Net Pulse Exports Drop

VANCOUVER - Oct 15/14 - SNS -- New Zealand's net pulse exports were down 41% during the first eight months of the 2014 calendar year, reaching 10,152 metric tons (MT), according to trade data available in the Platinum edition of STAT.

Imports of all categories of pulses advanced from 7.693 to 8,186 MT, while exports fell from 11,050 to 10,152 MT. Pulse exports for the entire 2013 calendar year ended up at 15,025 MT, plunging 42% from the 25,927 exported during 2012.

New Zealand's pulse exports are dominated by field peas. Modest quantities of mung bean, lentil and broadbean are also exported.

Field pea exports are not broken down by class, but the country is an important competitor in both marrowfat and green pea markets. The most important destinations for peas so far this year have been Pakistan and Australia, with each taking around 1,100 MT of product.
