Pea Markets Confounded by Reports

VANCOUVER - Jun 28/14 - SNS -- North American field pea markets finished the week;s trading on a relatively quiet note as they try to assess the implications of the latest seeding area estimates from Canada, anticipate Monday's USDA report.

Efforts to digest these reports are being compounded by the fact next week will be a short trading week in North America. Much of the trade in Canada will be off Monday and Tuesday for that country's national holiday; while traders in the United States will start leaving Thursday for July 4 celebrations.

Actual and intended field pea seedings in western Canada total 3.955 million acres, up 20% from last year's 3.285 million acres, but unchanged from the March seeding intentions. This is just 10,000 acres shy of the record set in 2008.
