Buyers May Regain Some Market Power

VANCOUVER - Jun 7/14 - SNS -- For much of the past couple of years tight supplies of key pulses have strongly influenced price direction. For the coming year, markets expect to see more power returned to the hands of buyers as available supplies of pulses.

However, there is an underlying worry that weather conditions could cause major damage to crops in a key producing or consuming region of the world.

If there are no significant problems, global production of dry edible beans, lentils, field peas and chickpeas could reach a record 52.75 million metric tons across the entire 2014-15 marketing year. If realized, output would be up 2.9% over last season and 6.6% above the recent five year average.
