Birdseeds Little Changed

VANCOUVER - Feb 28/14 - SNS -- North American birdseed ingredient markets unchanged to somewhat easier during another week of relatively light trading interest.

Most of the price movement was in sunflower seed, with oil-type product following the lead of soybean oil and canola markets. Confection sunflower markets were somewhat firmer on the week, helped by stronger new crop bids for large seeds.

"Old and new crop sunflower prices continue to show good strength," notes the U.S. based National Sunflower Association (NSA). "Old crop gained 25-35 cents and new crop added 20-25 cents per hundredweight this week. Seed prices have been on an upward trend for the past month."
