Birdseed Markets Still Mixed

VANCOUVER - Sep 7/13 - SNS -- Birdseed ingredient markets maintained their mixed performance during the past week, with white proso millet and canaryseed steady, and oil-type sunflower weaker.

Commenting on market conditions, the U.S. based National Sunflower Association said, "The above normal temperatures and dry conditions that set in late this summer has had quite an effect on the crop size of other crops in the Northern Plains states.

"Dry weather in July and especially August was hard on the soybean crop this year and there is not much relief offered in the seven-day forecast. To some degree, sunflowers have been affected by the hot temperatures but overall have done relatively well in the drought like conditions the past few weeks. The above average temperatures continue to push the sunflower crop toward maturity."
