Firm Tone In Birdseeds

VANCOUVER - Jul 6/13 - SNS -- Birdseed ingredient markets maintained their firm tone through the past week, helped by strength in sunflower.

Canadian canaryseed was sideways as markets debated the seeded area total from Statistics Canada. There is a real concern that production will not be known until export totals for the 1013-14 marketing year are clearer.

Meanwhile, the U.S. based National Sunflower Association noted, "new and old crop sunflower prices continue to move higher. New crop gained 15 to 25 cents this week at the crushing plants. Old crop sunflower prices were up 30 cents. Now that the USDA planted acres report is factored into the market buyers will anxiously watch crop production prospects before making longer term purchases."
