Yellow Peas Overshadowed by Green
VANCOUVER - Feb 1/13 - SNS -- Canadian field pea markets finished the week on a mixed note, with yellow pea markets losing confidence as green peas continue to establish new record high trading levels.
Grower bids for Canadian whole green peas jumped over 6% on the week to finish at CDN $607.50 per metric ton (MT) for farmers dressed product delivered processing plants or primary elevators.
While gross green pea production in Canada is up over last year, processors believe the proportion of the crop which is suitable for human consumption and splitting markets is down.
