Millet Posts New Record High

VANCOUVER - Jan 25/13 - SNS -- North American birdseed ingredient markets finished the week on a strong note, helped by continued strength in U.S. white proso millet markets.

Grower bids reached a new record high during the week, hitting U.S. 38.5 cents per pound for farmers dressed product delivered elevators and processing plants in the U.S. mid-west.

This is a 38% premium to Canadian canaryseed bids. Comparing grower bids for millet in the United States and canaryseed in Canada on a currency adjusted basis, the last time millet bids were at a premium to canaryseed was in the year 2000, when they peaked at a 50% premium.
