Birdseeds Helped by Strong Fundamentals

VANCOUVER - Dec 21/12 - SNS -- North American birdseed ingredient markets entered the Christmas and New Year’s holiday season on a strong note.

Markets are helped by fundamentally tight supplies in U.S. millet and Canadian canaryseed markets. Canadian production dropped over disappointment with demand, while the U.S. crop was reduced by drought.

Growers are generally finishing the calendar year in a strong, financial position, which makes it easier for them to choose when to sell as opposed being driven to sell to meet cash flow needs. This is helping keep available supplies just behind the short term needs of the market.
