Birdseeds Unchanged to Stronger
VANCOUVER - Aug 31/12 - SNS -- North American birdseeds ingredient markets managed a mixed finish on the week, with markets in the United States surging forward amid generally bullish commodity market conditions.
Oil type sunflower markets posted the large gains on the week, supported by strength in oilseed and vegetable oil markets. Hot weather in the Ukraine and Russia is leaving markets expecting lower average yields in those areas, supporting sunflower and potentially other parts of the birdseed market.
The U.S. based National Sunflower Association notes, "Rising US soyoil values and diminishing sunflower prospects in Eastern Europe, Russia and Ukraine have supported the surge in U.S. sunflower prices.
