French Exports to India Soar

VANCOUVER - Jul 6/12 - SNS -- India has emerged as the most importer buyer of peas from France during the 2011-12 marketing campaign on account of surging demand following a disappointing rabi or winter season pulse harvest.

Data compiled by the Union Nationale Interprofessionnelle des Plantes Riches en Proteines (UNIP) reveals exports during May totalled 66,280 metric tons (MT), up from the 49,720 MT shipped in April, and up from the 28,475 MT of field peas exported the same month the previous year.

This lifts field pea exports so far during the 2011-12 marketing year to 319,515 MT, versus 324,210 MT during the same period last season.
