French Pea Exports Slowing

VANCOUVER - Apr 6/12 - SNS -- Tight supplies and high prices continued to affect field pea export volumes from French, with movement in February dropping below both year and month earlier levels, according to the latest data compiled by the Union Nationale Interprofessionnelle des Plantes Riches en Proteines (UNIP).

Exports during the month totalled 7,520 metric tons (MT), down from the 7,680 MT shipped in January, and down from the 24,745 MT of field peas exported the same month the previous year.

This lifts field pea exports so far during the 2011-12 marketing year to 167,090 MT, versus 235,030 MT during the same period last season. Roughly 65% of the peas expected to be shipped from France this season moved in the July through February period, similar to the pace of movement during the same period last season.
