Argentine Popcorn Harvest Slashed

VANCOUVER - Feb 4/12 - SNS -- Argentina is looking at dramatic reduction in average corn yields this season, affecting both feed varieties and popcorn.

In a recent review of the drought, the U.S. agricultural attache for the country predicted Argentina would harvest no more than 21.8 million metric tons (MT) of corn, which is significantly lower than USDA's 26.0 million MT forecast.

Discussing regular feed corn, the U.S. agricultural attache said, "There is a wide range of production estimates, from 17 to 23 million MT. After a dry winter, plentiful rain in October and November covered most grain production area. Crops, primarily corn, were in very good condition.
