Mixed Week in Birdseeds

VANCOUVER - Dec 3/11 - SNS -- North American birdseed ingredient markets registered a mixed performance during the past week in the face of volatile currency and commodity markets.

Oil type sunflower markets lost ground in sympathy with easier canola markets; while white proso millet was firmer on the week and Canadian canaryseed unchanged.

Interestingly, elevators and crushing plants in the United States have started announcing prices for 2012 crop sunflower seed. New crop bids range between $27.00 per 100 pounds (cwt) for cash sunflowers for delivery in October and November. ADM Enderlin is offering growers $26.00 for cash sunflowers and $24.50 for contracts with an Act of God clause.
