Lentil Buying Interest Eases

VANCOUVER - Oct 22/11 - SNS -- International lentil markets finished the week's trading on a somewhat easier tone, with supplies available from origin suppliers pulling ahead of the short term needs of buyers in some destinations.

There is little evidence growers are pressing to sell lentils, having covered most or all of their cash flow needs from grains and oilseeds. Being cash rich makes it easier for them to wait on markets.

Whether that is a good strategy remains to be seen. Part of the problem is that buyers are facing pressures from other directions, which may have a bigger influence than price on their willingness to buy product.
