Saskatchewan Pea and Lentil Harvest Complete

VANCOUVER - Oct 6/11 - SNS -- Saskatchewan's pulse and specialty crop harvest is virtually complete, according to the latest crop progress report from Saskatchewan Agriculture.

Harvest progress for all crops grown in Saskatchewan now stands at 98% complete, a solid improvement on the recent five-year average of just 83% in the bin by the beginning of October.

On a regional basis, the overall harvest is 97% complete in the southeast and southwest; compared to 98% complete in the east-central, west-central and northeastern regions have 98 per cent combined; and 96% complete in the northwest.

"In general, crop yields are reported to be average to above-average, with the exception of the areas in the south and southeast that received excess moisture in the spring. Crop quality is generally good. Ergot and frost damage have caused downgrading in some areas," Saskatchewan Agriculture added.
