Record Chickpea Grower Bids in Canada

VANCOUVER - Sep 2/11 - SNS -- Chickpea markets managed to advance in value during the past week, with asking prices for kabuli type chickpeas rising for countries which still have inventory available for sale.

This was clearly reflected in North America. Canadian grower bids surged during the week, establishing a new record high price levels for all calibers of commercial grade kabuli-type chickpeas.

Market sentiment was helped by average yield estimates from crop reporters around Saskatchewan. Numbers they gave the provincial agriculture department suggest chickpea yields in Saskatchewan could end up at 1,105 pounds per acre instead of the 1,584 forecast by Statistics Canada.
