Short Term Tightness in Lentils

VANCOUVER - Aug 5/11 - SNS -- North American lentil markets finished the week on a generally firmer note as available supplies from growers and processors fell behind the short term needs of the market.

Though ending stocks are expected to be substantial, end users are keener to buy better quality product, which remains in short supply until the coming harvest.

In the United States, crop reporters in Montana reckon 5% of this year's crop was harvested as the week got underway amid forecasts of above normal temperatures and near normal precipitation through the middle of August.
