Chickpeas Maintain Strong Tone

VANCOUVER - Apr 15/11 - SNS -- Chickpea markets maintained their strong tone against expectations of a drastic reduction in the size of this year's harvest in Mexico and ideas seedings in Canada and the United States will not rise in response to higher market returns for the crop.

Hopes other countries would be able to properly fill the gap have been frustrated by crop production problems around the globe.

Significant speculation in India seems to be driving up the price of ready product. At the same time, some buyers are frustrated by Indian quality, causing them to look elsewhere for additional coverage. Chickpeas from India are not as uniform as from shippers in the Americas and Australia.
