Birdseeds Markets Finish Softer

VANCOUVER - Mar 5/11 - SNS -- Birdseed ingredient markets finished the trading on a softer note as offers of canaryseed and millet from growers pushed past the short term needs of buyers.

Competition for acreage is having an impact on grower bids in the United States. This is especially true of sunflower seed, with new crop bids for confectionary type sitting at U.S. 40 cents per pound for large and 25 cents for small caliber seed.

Oil-type sunflower seed markets are also strong with spot bids just under 31 cents per pound in Kansas.
