Birdseed Ingredients Maintain Momentum

VANCOUVER - Feb 11/11 - SNS -- Birdseed ingredient markets continue to firm under the influence of outside markets and bullish fundamentals for the Canadian canaryseed crop.

This was reflected in another solid advance in white proso millet markets in the United States and continued strength in confectionary and oil-type sunflower seed markets.

Commenting on markets, the U.S. based National Sunflower Association (NSA) said, "The rally in new crop oil sunflower seed prices at the crush plants continued last week. Prices are in a range of $26.95 - $28.05 per cwt. depending on location. New crop prices have picked up $3.90 to $6.45 per cwt. in the past month.

"Old crop prices remain firm at $29.20 to $29.85 as crushers and bird seed buyers have been competing for existing supplies. The bird seed market continues to be very aggressive for old crop supplies with ND and SD locations at $30.00 to $32.50 per cwt," the NSA sadi,
