Strong Demand Boost Peas

VANCOUVER - Feb 4/11 - SNS -- North American birdseed ingredient markets finished the week's trading on a relatively firm note, helped by strength in U.S. markets on account of competition with major grains and oilseeds.

Confectionary sunflower markets posted solid gains on the week, with grower bids for larges advancing U.S. $3 per 100 pounds (cwt) and small jumping $4 cwt.

Commenting on markets, the U.S. based National Sunflower Association (NSA) said, "New crop sunflower prices at the crush plants gained another 20 to 45 cents this week closing at $27.15 - $29.85 cwt (100 pounds) depending on location as prices continue to move higher. New crop prices have picked up $3.90 to $6.45 per cwt. in the past month.

"New crop confection prices are at a premium to oils and are being quoted in a range of $34-$38. In addition there are hulling-type and high oleic contracts available with specific delivery, storage, and pricing options," the NSA said.
