Ag Canada Sees More Chickpeas in 2011

VANCOUVER - Jan 29/11 - SNS -- In its latest monthly review of Canadian chickpeas Agriculture Canada's market analysis branch in Winnipeg is predicting that seeded area will total 210,000 acres this year, compared to 205,000 acres last year. Agriculture Canada believes this has the potential for production to total 135,000 MT, versus 128,000 last year.

Agriculture Canada forecasts exports will reach 70,000 in 2010-11 and 70,000 MT in 2011-12. Domestic use is forecast at 68,000 MT this season and 60,000 MT in the coming marketing year.

Season ending stocks are forecast to finish the 2010-11 season at 15,000 MT and the 2011-12 season at 25,000 MT.

Agriculture Canada estimates grower bids will average between $630 and $660 MT in 2010-11 and between $600 and $630 MT for all classes of chickpeas in 2011-12.
