Tighter Than Expected Canaryseed Picture

VANCOUVER - Dec 3/10 - SNS -- International birdseed ingredient markets were caught by surprise by the final crop production for Canadian canaryseed.

Statistics Canada reduced the crop to just 110,000 metric tons (MT) on poor yields and inability by farmers to harvest 6.9% of this year's seeded area. Markets had been looking for production to be closer to 150,000 MT.

Statistics Canada said production of hairless canaryseed was up 34.3% at 48,200 MT; while output of regular and unspecified canaryseed fell 41.1% to 62,400 MT.
