WASHINGTON - Sep 10/21 - SNS - This year's peanut harvest is expected to reach 6.35 billion pounds, down 4% from the previous forecast but up 3% from 2020, according to the latest USDA production estimates.
Acreage updates were made in several States based on a thorough review of all available data. Planted area, at 1.58 million acres is down 3% from the previous estimate and down 5% from the 2020 planted area. Area harvested is expected to total 1.53 million acres, down 3% from the previous forecast and down 5% from 2020.
Based on conditions as of September 1, the average yield for the United States is forecast at 4,141 pounds per acre, down 42 pounds per acre from the previous forecast but up 345 pounds per acre from 2020. Record high yields are forecasted in Alabama and South Carolina.
