Birdseeds Mixed With Firm Undertone

PANAMA - Jan 12/20 - SNS -- North American birdseed ingredient markets finished the week's trading on a mixed note, with markets responding to lower than hoped sunflower output and a bigger than expected millet harvest.

This year's sunflower seed harvest was pegged at 881,536 metric tons (MT), down from almost 956,000 last year. This contributed a solid advance in grower bids for oil type sunflower, while bids for confection remain unchanged.

Output of oil type sunflower dropped from 856,056 to 792,139 MT, while confection slipped from just under 100,000 MT to 89,397. Residual stocks of both classes of sunflower were down from last year, with the result available supplies for the 2019-20 marketing campaign are down for both categories of sunflower.
