India Expects Bigger Oil-Type Mustard Crop

PANAMA - Apr 1/16 - SNS -- India's rabi season mustard seed harvest will likely be bigger than initially thought, believes the Central Organization for Oil Industry and Trade (COOIT), which will lift overall rabi season oilseed output from 6.994 to 7.741 million MT.

The organization said even though farmers planted 66,000 hectares less mustard seed, at 6.451 million hectares, yields are expected to jump from 767 to 899 kilograms per hectare.

If realized, that would lift mustard seed output from 5 to 5.8 million MT. Even so, domestic mustard seed markets are experiencing short term strength against worries of damage from recent hail storms.
