High Prices Pull Land Into Pulses

VANCOUVER - May 30/15 - SNS -- As expected in presentations during the this year's CICILS conference in Las Vegas, prices have done their job of pulling land into pulses in Australia.

Seeded area is expected to be up 27% over last year at an estimated 1.88 million hectares, the highest area since farmers planted 1.97 million hectares in 2001.

Record high grower bids for desi chickpeas has accomplished what price should, stimulate interest in the crop. As a result, Pulse Australia believes farmers planted 622,000 hectares of desi and 51,700 hectares of kabuli chickpeas, compared to 370,050 and 54,950 respectively last year.
