Unusualy Tight Canadian Pulse Inventory

VANCOUVER - May 10/14 - SNS -- Inventories of field peas and lentils in Canada on March 31 were down precipitously from last year, pointing to an unusually tight supply situation until this year's harvest gets underway.

Statistics Canada's survey of 11,500 farmers between March 18 and 31 found stocks of grains and oilseeds returned to the levels seen in 2013 as the bumper 2014 harvest was absorbed domestic and export markets.

By contrast, supplies of lentils were at their lowest level since 2010, sinking 54% from 935,000 metric tons (MT) last year to just 434,000. At the same time, field pea inventories fell 34% from 1.527 to 1.004 million MT.
