Russian Import Ban Includes Pulses

WASHINGTON - Aug 8/14 - SNS -- Pulses are included in the long list of agricultural products included in a one year ban on imports from Canada, the United States, European Union, Australia, and Norway.

The ban was imposed in retaliation for escalating economic sanctions against Russia due to events in the Ukraine.

Export and import data available to Platinum subscribers to the STAT website reveal that Russia is not a significant importer of pulses and other special crops. Between 2010 and 2013, field pea imports averaged 9,827 metric tons (MT) per year, compared to 23,550 MT of kidney beans; lentils at 2,918 MT; chickpeas 904 MT; and beans (nes) 748 MT.
