Bigger Mustard Seed Harvest

WASHINGTON - Jan 10/14 - SNS -- The 2013 mustard seed crop was up significantly in the United States, according to the USDA's final production estimates for the 2013 crop.

Mustard seed output increased 23% from last year to 36.7 million pounds or 16,659 metric tons (MT) as improved yields offset a 12% drop in planted area to 45,000 acres.

Harvested area, at 43,400 acres, is down 13% from last year. The average yield, at 846 pounds per acre, is 244 pounds above last year's yield.
