Mustard Mulling Canadian Data

PANAMA - Dec 8/23 - SNS -- Canada's final production estimate for mustard seed offered no major surprises, with output rising just 2% from the country's September forecast while slipping 3% below ideas based on provincial yield projections.

Statistics Canada's final, survey based harvest estimate was 170,710 metric tons (MT) from 637,400 acres, just up from 161,781 MT from 573,700 acres last year. Though production was up, lower average yields largely offset the impact of increased plantings, with yields per seeded acre sinking from 622 to 590 pounds.

However, available supplies are up significantly. Residual stocks from the 2022-23 marketing year are estimated at 40,000 MT, up from 16,000 a year earlier. As a result, available supplies of all classes of mustard seed jumped from 177,800 to 210,700 MT.
