Provincial Data Concerns Mustard Market
PANAMA - Oct 6/23 - SNS -- Mustard seed markets were unchanged on the week despite indications Canada's harvest could be substantially higher than forecast by Statistics Canada.
Crop reporters in Saskatchewan believe the average yield for the province is 861 pounds per acre, well above Statistics Canada's September forecast of 580 pounds.
Statistics Canada's numbers are model based, whereas the provincial numbers are based on yields reported by farmers to local crop reporters. Statistics Canada will do a direct survey of farmers in November as it develops its final production estimates for 2023.
