AgCanada Views Canary, Sunseed

PANAMA - Dec 23/16 - SNS -- In its latest monthly review of Canadian canaryseed Agriculture Canada's market analysis branch in Winnipeg reports canaryseed production this year totalled 120,000 MT from 105,000 hectares, compared to 149,000 MT from 132,000 hectares last year.

Agriculture Canada forecasts exports will reach 115,000 MT in 2016-17, compared to 146,000 MT last season. Domestic use is forecast at 5,000 MT in the coming marketing year, versus 8,000 last season.

Season ending stocks are forecast to finish the 2016-17 marketing year at 5,000 MT, versus 5,000 the previous marketing year.

Agriculture Canada said the average grower bid was $580 MT in 2015-16. It thinks the season average bid will range between $470 and $500 MT in 2016-17.

Looking at Canadian sunflower seed Agriculture Canada's market analysis branch in Winnipeg reports sunflower seed production this year totalled 51,000 MT from 28,000 hectares, compared to 73,000 MT from 41,000 hectares last year.

Agriculture Canada forecasts exports will reach 27,000 MT in 2016-17, compared to 29,000 MT last season. Domestic use is forecast at 49,000 MT in the coming marketing year, versus 49,000 last season.

Season ending stocks are forecast to finish the 2016-17 marketing year at 30,000 MT, versus 25,000 the previous marketing year.

Agriculture Canada said the average grower bid for all classes of sunflower was $550 MT in 2015-16. It thinks the season average bid will range between $535 and $565 MT in 2016-17.
