World Canaryseed Output Rising
PANAMA - Jan 18/16 - SNS -- International canaryseed production is expected to expand in the cominbg season, largely due to forecast increases in seeded area in Canada, the world's largest producer.
Even so, land in the crop remains significantly below what was seen a decade earlier. Years of high prices relative to competing ingredients zuch as white proso millet have eroded market share for the product in birdseed mixes.
Markets were not helped by phytosanitary problems on shipments to Mexico. Exports to that destination collapsed during the 2011-12 marketing campaign. While export movement recovered the following season, shipment volumes remain below the averages seen prior to 2011.
