Little Change in Birdseeds

VANCOUVER - Jul 11/15 - SNS -- North American birdseed ingredient markets finished the week's trading unchanged to firmer on mixed outlooks for world grain and oilseed production.

Oilseed output is expected to be down in the coming season, which is supportive for oil-type sunflower. That affects prices for some categories of birdseed sunflower.

Land in sunflower is up slightly in the United States this year, with gains in oil-type sunflower partly offset by a steep drop in confection. Land in non-oil sunflower sank from 388,800 to 283,000 acres, while farmers boosted oil-type sunflower are from 1.172 to 1.399 million acres.

Average yields would result in an 875,500 metric ton (MT) oil-type sunflower crop, up from 754,409 MT last year. On the other hand, confection sunflower output could drop from 250,234 to 174,100 MT.
