Rail Car Fulfillment Falling Behind

VANCOUVER Feb 4/15 - SNS -- Canadian railways are steadily falling behind in supplying cars ordered by shippers, according to the latest transportation review by the Ag Transport Coalition.

So far during the 2014-15 marketing year, Canada's two major railways -- CN and CP -- have supplied 45% of customer orders in the week for which cars were ordered, with CN supplying 58%, and CP 33%.

Through the first 23 weeks of the current crop year, railways have failed to supply 15,743 hopper cars ordered by shippers, or roughly 9% of all cars ordered by grain, oilseed and specialty crop shippers. Significantly, more than 7,400 customer orders have been outstanding for 4 weeks or longer.
