Canada Mustard Seed Production Summary - 2014

VANCOUVER - Dec 6/14 - SNS -- Mustard seed was one of the few specialty crops crops showing an increase in production over last year in the final crop report for the year from Statistics Canada.

Output jumped from and 154,500 metric tons (MT) last year to 198,000 MT. Seeded area was pegged at 500,000 acres, up sharply from the 365,000 planted last year, making this the fourth consecutive increase in plantings.

The latest estimate is down 11% from October's 222,300 MT forecast. Saskatchewan's crop ended up at 138,600 MT, versus 117,300 last year. Alberta's crop came in at 59,400, compared to 37,200 MT last year.
