Bulk Pea Exports Maintain Momentum

VANCOUVER - Jun 9/14 - SNS -- The pace of field pea exports from Canada remained strong in June, with preliminary data from the Canadian Grain Commission showing port clearances were up from both month and year earlier levels.

Unofficial data suggests almost 217,000 metric tons (MT) of peas could have been loaded to bulk conventional vessels from licensed terminals and directly primary elevators in June, compared to 183,000 MT in April and 126,800 MT the same month last year.

While port clearances last summer slowed dramatically in the face of tight supplies, there are enough peas in the hands of farmers and exports to maintain a strong pace through the final month of the 2013-14 marketing campaign and into the opening quarter of the coming marketing year.
