Pulse Inventory Down As of June 1

WASHINGTON - Jun 29/12 - SNS -- The amount of pulses on hand on farms and in commercial storage was down sharply from last year because of smaller harvest in 2011, according to the latest stocks in all positions report from the USDA.

Pulse crops stored in all positions on June 1, 2012 and the change from June 1, 2011 are: dry edible peas, 1.90 million cwt (100 pound units), down 49%; lentils, 1.76 million cwt, up 1%; Austrian winter peas, 80,000 cwt, down 17%; all chickpeas, 353,000 cwt, up 7%; small chickpeas, 158,000 cwt, up 66%; and large chickpeas, 195,000 cwt, down 17%. Small chickpeas are defined as peas that will pass through a 20/64 inch round hole screen.
