French Pea Exports Still Slowing

VANCOUVER - Mar 14/12 - SNS -- French field pea export movement continued to slow in January, dropping below both year and month earlier levels, according to the latest data compiled by the Union Nationale Interprofessionnelle des Plantes Riches en Proteines (UNIP).

Exports during the month totalled 7,680 metric tons (MT), down from the 11,950 MT shipped in December, and down from the 17,655 MT of field peas exported the same month the previous year.

This lifts field pea exports so far during the 2011-12 marketing year to 159,570 MT, versus 210,285 MT during the same period last season. Almost 60% of the peas expected to be shipped from France this season moved in the July through December period, similar to the pace of movement during the same period last season.
