Field Pea Markets Gain Ground

VANCOUVER - Mar 10/12 - SNS -- Limited grower selling interest helped push Canadian field pea markets higher on the week.

Ongoing tender activity in the United States continued to support markets in that country. During the week, the USDA confirmed the purchase of 4,000 metric tons (MT) of yellow split peas and requested offers on another 800, both for April movement from origin shipping points.

The USDA issued Markets were unaffected by the USDA's announcement of loan rates for pulses grown this year. The rates remain well below current market values and not expected to be tested in the coming year, even though pea area in both Canada and the United States is expected to rise.
