WASHINGTON - Jan 12/12 - SNS -- Production of safflower in 2011, at 170 million pounds, is down 23% from 2010, and is the lowest production since records began in 1991, according to the USDA's final production estimate for 2011 crops.
Growers planted a record low 130,700 acres in 2011, a decrease of 25% from last year.
Harvested area, at a record low 127,300 acres, is down 24% from the previous year.
The yield, at 1,333 pounds per acre, increased 13 pounds from 2010.
