Canaryseed Fundamentals Lift Birdseeds

VANCOUVER - Jun 10/11 - SNS -- Birdseed ingredient markets maintained their firm tone through the past week, helped by tightening available supplies of old crop product and worries about the impact falling area could have on new crop markets.

New crop sunflower markets remain relatively flat as markets try to determine the impact late seeding of other crops will have on it.

On the other hand, spot market grower bids "in most locations are at record high levels as the competition for remaining old crop sunflower remains intense," notes the U.S. based National Sunflower Association.

Seeding of all crops is running two to three weeks behind normal in most of western Canada. In Saskatchewan, canaryseed planting should be about 75% complete, with some market participants doubting farmers will manage to seed all they intend.
