Birdseeds Helped by Outside Markets

VANCOUVER - Jun 4/11 - SNS -- North American birdseed ingredient markets finished the week's trading on a firm note in sympathy with major grains and oilseeds.

Markets are giving somewhat mixed messages about the seeded area potential for sunflower and canaryseed because both crops can be planted later than grains, canola or soybeans.

While this could pull land into these crops, weather forecasts are not helpful. Forecasters say southern Saskatchewan, Montana and parts of North Dakota are looking at colder and wetter weather than usual through the 11th of June.
