Feverish Exports Support Peas

VANCOUVER - Dec 17/10 - SNS -- North American field pea markets finished the week's trading on a strong note against feverish export activity in Canada and tight processing capacity in the United States.

Ongoing USDA PL-480 purchases of yellow split peas is keeping processing capacity well utilized in the United States, sometimes limiting the ability of individual processors to participate in commercial business.

Capacity issues are helping strengthen prices for whole green peas, even though demand from the USDA for this class of pea is limited. In Canada, exporters are having trouble keeping pace with the numbers of ships scheduled to load product in Vancouver.
