Record Summer For Pea Exports

VANCOUVER - Sep 4/10 - SNS -- Canadian field pea exporters finished their best summer shipping season on record, moving over 591,000 metric tons (MT) of peas through Vancouver's bulk terminals between the beginning of June and the end of August. This is roughly 226,000 better than last year; and beats 2005 record by almost 148,000 MT.

A surge in buying interest from the Indian subcontinent was the key reason for the bulge in export movement, which saw exporters more peas in July and August than they had ever shipped in either of those two months in the past.

Shipments in August ended up at 279,947 MT, making for a solid start on the new crop shipping season and relieving much of the pressure last season's carryover can have on new crop pricing levels.
