Mustard Area Down 11% in U.S.

WASHINGTON - Jun 29/18 - SNS -- Farmers in the United States reduced land in mustard seed this year by 11% to 91,500 acres, according to the USDA's seeded area estimates for this year.

Mustard seed area for harvest is forecast at 85,700 acres, down 10% from the previous year.

Canadian plantings went the other direction, with farmers boosting land in the crop from 385,000 to 503,800 acres.

Acreage planted to rapeseed is estimated at 5,400 acres, down 4,700 acres from 2017 but still represents the third highest area since 2004. Harvested rapeseed area is forecast at 5,100 acres.
