Russian Pulse Exports Up 28%

VANCOUVER - Nov 16/15 - SNS -- Russia's pulse exports increased 28% during the first half of the calendar year, while imports slumped 59%.

So far during the 2015 calendar year, total pulse exports were just under 301,000 metric tons (MT), while total imports approached 12,300 MT, according to data published in the platinum version of STAT.

Field pea and chickpeas are the most important pulses exported by Russia. Shipments of both categories of pulses are up over last year, with field peas showing the most growth.

Typically, dry edible beans are the most important pulses imported by Russia, followed by field peas and lentils. Interestingly, the country is showing no field pea imports so far this calendar year, reflecting the impact of trade sanctions and a bigger harvest, which has allowed export sales to advance.
